June 2018 Update
New clothes for local children
During Christmas, we collected donations for “Clothes for Christmas,” a special campaign to give beautiful new outfits to Haitian children who need them. Thanks to your outpouring of support, 73 children will receive new outfits!
We intended to start this project in January, but the students were so busy preparing for graduation that they weren’t able to start on the outfits until recently. The photo above shows some of the beautiful outfits that the students have made thus far.
The children are delighted to have new outfits. For many, this is the first new outfit they’ve ever had, and it’s even custom-made just for them.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in this special campaign. We'll send you a photo of a child wearing the outfit you sponsored as soon as the outfit has been made.
We asked and you responded...in a BIG way
Thanks to you, we've purchased 13 vintage electric sewing machines for our incoming class, and we have enough money in the fund to purchase two more. At this point, we only need a donation to cover the cost of 1 more sewing machine!
We could still use a few more storage bags for our annual cargo shipment. These bags will be used to ship the fabric and supplies over to Haiti, and as storage in the classroom.
A special thank you to everyone who has donated toward these important needs!
Thank you Dominant-Deelz
We'd also like to extend a special thank you to our new friends Sherman and Ruth, who run the eBay store Dominant-Deelz - specializing in vintage items and collectibles. We purchased a beautiful vintage electric sewing machine from them, and after hearing about the ministry, they sold us 3 more at cost, and donated over 30 pairs of metal scissors to our students. Thank you for your generous support!
Sewing machines for new class
We're currently seeking 15 vintage (as of 6/25 - we only need 1 more) electric metal sewing machines for our new Port-de-Paix class. Our students will convert these electric sewing machines into treadle sewing machines that do not require electricity (since we do not have electricity).
There are many vintage sewing machines on Ebay ranging in price from $100 - $200. Since shipping to Haiti is costly, we want to be sure that the machines we send can definitely be converted, so we are only seeking external belt-driven motor machines at this time.
